Cf. three gold discs with Macedonian starburst found at Vergina, illustrated in exhibition catalogue, The Search for Alexander, Boston, 1980. The Macedonian starburst, the eternal symbol of Macedonia, was the principal decorative element used on objects and coins throughout the Hellenistic period; it was adopted by Hellenistic kings, even those with the remotest connections to Alexander and his followers, right up until the mid-1st Century B.C.
